Chinese FM Wang Yi made an official visit to Afghanistan to discuss economic and political prospects between the two nations – the first such trip by Beijing officials since the Taliban took over the country.
Reports say the key topic at the meeting was China’s worries about Afghanistan possibly becoming a safe haven and staging ground for Uyghur separatist groups.
Taliban officials vowed to address “all concerns” of China that may “emerge from the soil of Afghanistan,” without mentioning Uyghurs directly.
