Foreign ministry spox Zhao Lijian branded a Bloomberg report that claimed President Xi Jinping has begged his Russian counterpart to not invade Ukraine during the upcoming Beijing Olympics as a “despicable trick” that won’t fool the international community.
“The report was purely made out of thin air,” Lijian said. “It seeks not only to smear and drive a wedge in China-Russia relations, but also to deliberately disrupt and undermine the Winter Olympics.”
