China province targets journalists and “suspicious people” with hi-tech new surveillance system

RT News

The Henan provincial govt. commissioned a surveillance system comprising 3,000 facial recognition cameras to track journalists, intl. students among other “suspicious people,” a Reuters exclusive uncovered.

Neusoft won the 5-million-yuan ($782K) contract on Sept. 17, which was required to finish rolling out the tech within two months.

Warnings will be set off if a journalist checks into a Henan hotel, buys a ticket or crosses the provincial border, the tender read.
